Plant Care Guides / Outdoor & Coastal / Medium shrubs
Exotic (Australian) | Easy Care | Medium shrubs
The salt bush is a tough, dense, silver-grey Australian shrub that does exactly what its name suggests: it thrives in salty, coastal conditions that would kill most plants.
It has small, arrow-shaped, grey-green to silver leaves and an upright, bushy habit that clips well into a hedge or screen. It is one of the best choices for the front line of a coastal garden, the fully exposed position where the salt spray hits hardest. It handles wind, drought, sandy soil and alkaline conditions, and it stays dense and green when other plants burn. It is not showy, but it is the plant you put between the sea and the rest of your garden.
