Kooigoed is a cheerful, fast-growing fynbos shrub that covers itself in flat-topped clusters of small, bright yellow flowers through late winter and spring. The name is Afrikaans (loosely "bedding stuff") because the dried leaves were traditionally used to stuff mattresses.
It has fine, aromatic, grey-green foliage on upright stems and a naturally tidy, rounded habit. It is a coastal fynbos species, completely at home in sandy soil, wind and salt air, and once established it needs almost nothing. It is excellent for bringing early-spring colour to a garden when little else is flowering, and bees love it.
1 to 1.5 m tall and about 1 m wide.
