Plant Care Guides / Indoor / Moderate Care
The Ficus Audrey is fast becoming the go-to alternative to the fiddle-leaf fig. It has the same bold, upright, tree-like shape, but its leaves are slightly smaller, thicker and more velvety, with prominent pale veins on a rich green surface. It is also more forgiving than the fiddle-leaf, which is why it has gained a loyal following. This also covers the variegated form, which has the same care needs.
Like all ficus plants, the Audrey does not enjoy being moved around. Find a bright spot, leave it there, and it will reward you with steady growth. The leaves collect dust, so wipe them with a damp cloth every few weeks to keep them looking their best and absorbing light properly.
Bright, indirect light. It handles a little gentle morning sun, which brings out the leaf colour, but avoid hot afternoon sun. It tolerates medium light better than a fiddle-leaf fig, but growth slows noticeably and the leaves get smaller.
Water when the top few centimetres of soil have dried out, then water deeply and let it drain. It does not like sitting in wet soil, and overwatering is more dangerous than underwatering. Reduce in winter. It appreciates some humidity, so an occasional mist or a wipe-down with a damp cloth helps.
Feed monthly through spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser.
Repot every one to two years in spring. Use a well-draining potting mix and a heavy pot for stability as it grows tall.
